Thoughts from a member:

I am very fortunate to have been on Lake Sokokis since 1957.  When my folks bought the “camp”, the lake was very much undeveloped and pristine.  As you are aware, the lake is manmade and fed through a variety of brooks and streams.  Over the years through development, general use of boats, jet-skis and other motorized vessels the lake has sustained some degradation, both naturally and manmade.  This year I received a paddle board for my birthday and have been making daily morning paddles around the lake.  The paddleboard really gives you an up-close look of the lake and shoreline.  With the heavy rains we had in June/July the brooks and streams that feed this lake were really running.  As I paddled around the large part of the lake and down the river, I was very surprised to realize how many small brooks and streams actually feed the lake on the Hoyt Road and Kelly Road side (west side of the lake).   This is aside from the main feeder, Brown Brook.  My concern is maintaining the integrity of the lake for the future generations.  Each of these brooks and streams contribute to the quality of lake.  I hope by sharing my paddleboard experience and gaining a better understanding of how the lake is fed you will better appreciate the true “gem” we all share with Sokokis Lake.
